What is GRP?
Our External Stair Nosings are aluminium profiles with a GRP Infill. GRP is Glass Reinforced Plastic, a lightweight, high-strength composite material made from plastic resin reinforced with fine glass fibers.
This hardness ensures durability when used in stair products which are required to withstand heavy footfall and the naturally robust nature of glass fibre reinforcement is ideal for providing strength and anti-slip properties in wet environments.
In GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) profiles, the glass fibres are contained within a carefully formulated resin mixture which, when cured, not only binds the fibres together but also creates a monolithic structure throughout the entire stair nosing profile. The result is an integral product which is impervious to water ingress.
The inclusion of glass fibre reinforcement throughout the whole profile ensures that the installed product offers effective slip resistance and structural integrity long after other products in which reinforcement is incorporated only as a surface layer.
