Staircase Stringers are used on either side of a staircase, you may also see them called “String”, “Stringer Board” or “stairway side edging”. Staircase Stringers cover where the treads and risers are fixed on the step, you may have a stringer, cut stringer, and wall stringer.
Wall stringers sit flush against the wall, connecting the treads and risers to the wall, whereas a stringer or cut stringer sits on the outside, more exposed and known as the “outer stringer”.
A staircase stringer is essentially used to support the stairs along with hiding the tread and riser fixings, as well as making the staircase look sleeker.
